Washington initiative promoter Tim Eyman ordered to pay an additional $2.9M in fines

Embattled initiative promoter Tim Eyman was dealt another legal blow Friday when a Thurston County Superior Court judge ordered him to pay $2.9 million to reimburse Washington taxpayers for Attorney General’s Bob Ferguson’s costs in his campaign finance case.

In February 2021, Eyman was ordered to pay $2.6 million in civil penalties for “numerous and blatant violations” of state’s voter-approved campaign finance laws, including concealing hundreds of thousands of dollars contributions in a personal bank account.

The attorney general’s office sued Eyman in March of 2017, a suit stemming from a 76-page report by the state Public Disclosure Commission into Eyman’s initiative business. The AG’s suit alleges Eyman took $300,000
