Owner of unoccupied vehicle that struck, killed Seattle student receives parking violations

The unoccupied SUV that killed 12-year-old Arsema Barekew in Seattle won’t lead to criminal charges.

SEATTLE — The owner of an unoccupied vehicle that struck a 12-year-old girl near Seattle’s Washington Middle School will not be criminal charged. 

Seattle police sent four parking violations to Seattle Municipal Court after the March 6 incident that killed sixth-grader Arsema Barekew.

Around 12:40 p.m. on that day, officers received reports of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian near the intersection of 20th Place South and South Weller Street.
