Fans embrace Sound Transit light rail for Mariners’ Opening Day

Sound Transit opened four new stations in August 2024, providing more opportunities for fans to bypass traffic on game days.

SEATTLE — When Sound Transit expanded light rail service into Lynnwood last August, there were only 12 Mariners home games remaining — which likely limited the amount of time fans had to catch on to the new routes. 

While ridership statistics for Thursday won’t be known immediately, many fans appeared poised to take the light rail to T-Mobile Park for Opening Day festivities. 

“It beats all the traffic over there,” said Isaiah Britt, pointing to the gridlock on I-5 through Northgate.
