Crews recover part of submerged vehicle, believed to belong to Portland family missing since 1958

Authorities were working Friday to pull the vehicle from the Columbia River near Cascade Locks and succeeded in recovering at least part of it.

CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. — Authorities succeeded Friday in recovering part of a vehicle found submerged in the Columbia River, believed to belong to a Portland family who went missing nearly 70 years ago.

The Hood River County Sheriff’s Office (HRCSO) said that the chassis of the car was able to be retrieved around 3:45 pm Friday, along with the engine.

The portion of the car removed was then transported to a secure facility to be examined, with Sheriff Matt English
