SEATTLE — The top official for the Employment Security Department (ESD) said Tuesday the agency has seen a sharp increase in federal unemployment claims after the latest wave of layoffs by the Trump administration.
Cami Feek, ESD commissioner, said there have been 720 unemployment claims filed from federal workers as of Sunday, a 35% increase from last year. Feek said she’s seen an uptick in federal worker claims during government shutdowns, but not to this extent.
