High winds pummel PNW as power agency job cuts worry local leaders

SEATTLE — Rain and gusty winds pummeled western Washington Monday night, and power was knocked out for thousands of customers, including in urban neighborhoods like Fremont in North Seattle.

The outages come at a particularly vulnerable time. Last week, the Trump administration cut 430 positions at the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), which is 15% of its total workforce. BPA owns three-quarters of the Pacific Northwest’s high-voltage network, and power companies rely on its services.
