Speed zone cameras coming to Washington work zones soon

Six cameras should be nabbing speeding drivers in Washington state by this summer.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Drivers have another reason to obey posted speed limits in Washington state’s construction zones.

An automated camera that can mail speeding citations to drivers will start patrolling work zones later this winter, perhaps by the end of February, according to the Washington Department of Transportation.

Legislators said the measure should make work zones, and highways, safer.

“It’s crazy out there,” said Rep. Andrew Barkis (R-Olympia).
