COUPEVILLE, Wash. — When oil for her furnace got too expensive, 82-year-old Louise Goodell turned to alternate energy sources, like her oven, to stay warm.
“I needed heat and it was chilly in the wintertime,” she said. “I thought the broiler would be okay.”
Ovens should never be used as a source of heat because of threats from fire and carbon monoxide poisoning.
