The caseworker assigned to 4-year-old Ariel Garcia’s family had over 20 open cases they were responsible for when the maximum recommended is 12.
EVERETT, Wash. — A report concluded there was no wrongdoing on the part of the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) in 4-year-old Ariel Garcia’s death, but a language barrier and a case overload may have impeded its response.
Ariel’s grandmother made a report to DCYF just days before the 4-year-old’s death, saying she was concerned for her grandchildren’s welfare and that her daughter was using drugs and “acting crazy.”
