Parents, child care providers lobby lawmakers

Budget writers have been told to prepare for an estimated $12 billion budget shortfall over the next four years.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Dozes of parents and preschool providers lobbied Washington state lawmakers Wednesday, asking them to expand child care access and higher pay for providers.

“I’m kind of all over the place,” said Shayla Montgomery, a Seattle pre-school teacher.

She said additional funding would enable her facility to retain employees with higher pay, and hire additional staff to lighten her workload.
