King County warming shelters remain open through next week during cold snap

Officials with the county say dozens of warming shelters will remain open until at least Jan. 29 as this cold weather continues.

SEATTLE — The freezing weather this month is keeping the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA) busy providing shelter to those in need. 

Officials with the county say dozens of warming shelters have been activated since Jan. 12 and will remain open until at least Jan. 29 as this cold weather continues.

“We’re activating because the temperatures have gotten so low at night that it can cause extreme harm and health concerns who find themselves unhoused,” said Simon Foster, the deputy CEO
