Auburn residents voice unease over crime

Mayor Nancy Backus said the series of solutions-based discussions started because “the community was up in arms.”

AUBURN, Wash. — Auburn Mayor Nancy Backus was joined by other city and school leaders on Tuesday to address the community’s concerns over crime and safety. 

It was the first meeting in the second phase an outreach and engagement effort that began in late 2023. 

According to the Auburn Police Department, crime was down overall from 2023 to 2024 and homicides were relatively flat. There were eight homicides in 2023 while the department investigated nine last year.
