The snowy owl occasionally makes an appearance in Washington state during winter.
BELLEVUE, Wash. — A snowy owl was spotted in Bellevue on Wednesday, the most recent notable sighting in King County in four years.
Mariela Stockdale shared photos of the owl, which was spotted in the Highlands neighborhood of Bellevue.
Chris Anderson, a wildlife biologist for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (WDFW) King County district, confirmed the bird was a snowy owl. Anderson said the owl was likely a first-year female based on how dark the barring on it was.
