Threat passes for West Coast Tsunami Warning that didn’t include Washington

The warning was briefly in effect for the Oregon coast south of Florence into Northern California.

SEATTLE — A Tsunami Warning that was briefly in place for southern Oregon and Northern California did not impact Washington state. 

The warning has since expired. It resulted from a major earthquake that struck off the Californian coast. 

An earthquake struck off the coast of Humboldt County, Calif., at around 10:45 a.m. Thursday morning, measuring a preliminary magnitude 7.0, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. This is about five hours northwest of Sacramento. People reported feeling the quake hundreds of miles down the coast.
