Seattle’s Aaron Small, Jonas Ecker make US kayak history at Paris Olympics

Aaron Small and Jonas Ecker both grew up in western Washington and trained in Seattle’s Green Lake.

VAIRES-SUR-MARNE, France — A Seattle kayak duo made Olympic history for the United States on Friday morning in Vaires-sur-Marne.

Aaron Small and Jonas Ecker became the first U.S. kayakers to qualify for an Olympic A final in 24 years, with the last group qualifying way back in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Small was born and raised in Seattle while Ecker hails from Bellingham.
