High winds temporarily strand cruise ship in Elliott Bay

SEATTLE — A cruise ship was forced to anchor in Elliott Bay on Monday morning after high winds prevented it from being able to return to port.

Coast Guard officials in Seattle confirmed to KING 5 that the Royal Caribbean boat, Quantum of the Seas, requested a spot to anchor due to high winds amid unseasonable conditions in western Washington that included heavy rain and winds.

The boat ended up anchoring in Elliott Bay until tugboats could come and help safely guide the ship into port. The Coast Guard confirmed to KING 5 on Monday afternoon that the boat was being tugged into Pier 91.
