In a city once famed for its security, the streets were rocked by two incidents: one involved the abduction of two female soldiers, and another involved the death of Jalisco Cartel leader ‘El Chopas’ after a gun battle.
The city, once popular for its secure image, was then home to 400 additional Mexican soldiers sent to secure the streets. Now, in 2023, Puerto Vallarta, a major tourist destination on the Mexican Pacific, has dropped from the prestigious list of Mexico’s top ten safest towns.
This, according to a recent National Public Urban Security Survey (ENSU) study, has both visitors and locals on edge.
